How To Whiten Teeth - Modern Teeth Whitening Methods For A Brighter Smile

One of the most important elements for having a great smile is the appearance of your teeth. Not having pearly white teeth does not necessarily mean you did not take good care of your teeth. The fact is our teeth normally become discolored as we grow older. The teeth can also be stained on the outer part due to certain foods and drink we consume. Things such as red wine, coffee, tea and grapes can cause discoloration of our teeth. Excessive smoking can also lead to teeth discoloration. Teeth can also become stained beneath the surface caused by tiny cracks in the teeth or antibiotics within the teeth that absorb the stains. Therefore, certain circumstances that you had no control over could have lead to the discoloration of your teeth. Below are the different teeth whitening options you can use to get back a great smile.

Teeth Bleaching

Bleaching is done with a teeth whitening product that contains carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide as the 'active ingredients'. This product is applied to your teeth with a special tray that fits into your mouth while the gums are protected with a gel or rubber shield to protect the soft tissue of your gums. When these ingredients break down, the oxygen enters the enamel of your teeth thus, making the color lighter. The entire process is completed over a period of about 3 weeks which will normally require approximately 3 different visits to the dentists. You may start seeing results after one week.

Laser Whitening

Laser Whitening is more expensive than bleaching. But it's considered to be the better option. The lazer whitening method involves placing a rubber dam over your teeth to protect the gums while the whitening product is then pasted unto the teeth. Following this laser will be used to stimulate the chemical into action. The lazer light will basically boost the chemical reaction of the bleaching product, so the whitening effect will be attained more rapidly. This method can make your teeth up to six shades lighter in colour and can last up to 3 years depending on how well you care it. You'll be advised by the dentist to avoid smoking and foods that can stain the teeth.

There you have it, the two most popular and effective teeth whitening methods available for improving the colour of your teeth. They have a higher price than brushing the teeth but they really do worth the cost since having a bright and healthy smile is a key factor for facial beauty that'll lead to a high level of confidence.
